How to Bleach Knots on a Lace Wig — Safely

Bleaching the knots is one of the little secrets behind a natural-looking lace wig. It lightens the tiny dark dots where each hair is tied to the lace, so the hairline looks like it's growing straight from your scalp. Here's how to do it safely — and remember, many Wigzu wigs already come with bleached knots, so you may not need to at all.

What Are Knots, and Why Bleach Them?

Each strand of hair on a lace wig is hand-tied to the lace with a small knot. On darker hair these knots can look like little black dots along the parting. Bleaching lightens them so they blend into the lace and disappear against the skin.

What You'll Need

Blue or white bleach powder and 20–30 volume developer
A tint bowl and brush, gloves, and a mannequin head
Foil, a rinse bowl, purple shampoo/toner, and conditioner

Step-by-Step

Turn the wig inside out on a mannequin head so the knots face up.
Mix the bleach and developer into a thick paste.
Apply a thin layer only to the knot area — never soak the hair.
Cover with foil and check every few minutes; knots usually lighten in 15–30 minutes.
Rinse thoroughly, wash with purple shampoo to cancel brassiness, then deep-condition to restore softness.

Tips to Avoid Damage

Work in a ventilated space, always wear gloves, and don't over-process — the moment the knots turn light brown/blonde, rinse. Keep bleach off the lengths of the hair, and always condition afterward to keep the hair soft. Never bleach a synthetic wig — the fibre can't handle it.
